A trabeculectomy is a standard surgical procedure in the front area of your eye, to operate glaucoma by reducing the pressure in your eye. Glaucoma develops when the fluid your eye generates, called aqueous humor, is not able to drain normally. This causes the intraocular pressure (IOP) to build over time, likely resulting in vision loss or blindness if not attended. Intraocular pressure (IOP) inside your eye reduces as a result of Trabeculectomy. This can reduce or end the vision loss occured by glaucoma. 
A new channel, or “bleb,” is created by a surgeon during trabeculectomy surgery through which fluid can drain from the eye. Reviving the eye’s capability to drain fluid should result in lowered IOP.
